Since VALORANT’s release in 2020, players' passion has been on full display. The last two years have been incredible and we’re just getting started. As we continue pushing VALORANT forward, we are looking for more talented Rioters to join our team. In 2022, we’ve hired a ton of amazing people on the VALORANT team and currently have over 70 open roles to fill.

If there’s anything VALORANT players know, it’s that a bit of extra info goes a long way. So we talked to Michael Hewitt, VALORANT’s Manager of Talent Acquisition to give you your own Recon Bolt for what the VALORANT team is looking for.

1. See Your Role and Fill It

Some people are duelists, others like to initiate. While flexing can be super helpful in ranking up, when it comes to applying, find the role that really speaks to you. You are better off finding that role, tailoring your resume and/or portfolio to the job description, and absolutely going for it.

Submitting a generic resume to a lot of open roles at once might seem like it improves your chances but just like trying to spray and pray, you’re better off landing that clean one tap to the right role.

With that being said, people add value in a lot of different ways. We want Rioters to learn and grow on the job so find a position that speaks to you and aligns with your current skills and experience but also one that you see as a challenge that gives you more to shoot for as you learn the role.

2. Show Your Passion

The VALORANT team isn’t full of Immortal players or longtime tactical shooter veterans (that’s just the play testers) but it is full of passionate Rioters who care about this game, its world, and the players who spend time on it every day.

Whether you’re a longtime player, new to the game but really enjoying it, a fan of the lore, or enjoy the fun stories in esports, showing your passion and why you want to join the VALORANT team will go a long way in making your application stand out. That can be being an active part of player communities, showing your knowledge of the game, or recounting some of your favorite moments in a map. Whatever it is, be sure to shout it from the rooftops.

3. Check out the Riot Values

Riot has five values that guide what we do every day. They are:

  • Player Experience First

  • Dare to Dream

  • Thrive Together

  • Execute with Excellence

  • Stay Hungry, Stay Humble

If you read these values and can translate them into your own work experience, you’ll be well on your way to joining Riot and the VALORANT team.

Whether that’s a time you helped improve the player experience in one of your favorite games or worked well with a teammate to accomplish a task, anytime you can show how your values align with ours, it’s going to be a positive.

4. Connect on Social and Build

Our recruiters are super active on social media, specifically LinkedIn, and following them there will give you the fast track on any new positions opening up. (Here’s Michael’s profile) Feel free to send connections and comment on posts if you have any questions for our VALORANT recruiters. We can’t promise every question will get answered but connecting and being active on social media never hurts.

On the flip side, make sure your profile is filled out with all your most current experience and work. Our recruiters use LinkedIn a ton for finding and researching potential candidates, so having an in-depth profile helps them make sure they see all your relevant work. That’s also true for ArtStation and other discipline-specific sites that allow you to showcase your portfolios and work. Having it all out there and discoverable helps our recruiters a ton. Check out the artstations and portfolios of some VALORANT team members to see the work Sabrina, Max, Raquel, and Ben did prior to joining Riot as well as the work they are doing now.

5. Be Persistent

We are committed to continuing to fill out this team. Riot is chock full of amazing people who applied multiple times before it became a reality. Even if a job you applied for doesn’t work out, please don’t let it discourage you. Try to take some learnings from the process, ask questions when you can, and apply again for a role that fits your skills.

We have a lot of jobs open and we want to fill them with passionate people. So even if you don’t get it the first time around, showing that passion hasn’t diminished at all on the next go will show our recruiters this is a team you really want to be on.

Make sure to check out all of the open roles on VALORANT and across the rest of on our careers page.
